Chiropractic Care: A Different Approach To Sinus Congestion

Do you struggle with chronic or repeated sinus congestion? This can be a frustrating symptom to experience. You may blow your nose, only for little to nothing to come out. The pressure in your sinuses may build to the point at which it causes headaches and even eye pain. Of course, there are medications you can take to reduce sinus congestion, but they don't work for everyone. Remedies like inhaling steam and essential oils are not always consistent, either. If you've tried these approaches but to no avail, it might be time to go a different route. Consider seeing a chiropractor. There are a few different ways in which chiropractic care can relieve sinus congestion.

Relieving pressure on your brain stem.

If the vertebrae in your neck are out of alignment, they might be pressing on your brain stem. Your brain stem helps regulate your sinuses, and pressure on it may interfere with your sinuses' ability to drain themselves. A chiropractor will quickly be able to tell if the spine in your neck is out of alignment and if it is, they will adjust it. This will take pressure off of your brain stem, which may allow you to better clear congestion from your sinuses. It may also reduce some inflammation and create more "space" in your sinuses so they don't feel as full, even when they are still a bit congested.

Allowing you to sit up straighter.

Poor posture can contribute to sinus congestion by preventing your sinuses from draining properly. A chiropractor can adjust your spine in a way that helps you sit taller and straighter with your chin held higher. You'll have an easier time maintaining good posture, and so, you will likely sit and stand with better posture more often. You're likely to find that your congestion wanes as a result.

Helping you reduce stress.

Stress is a huge contributor to inflammation, which is what's at the heart of a lot of sinus congestion. Chiropractic care can help reduce your stress levels by taking pressure off nerves related to your mood and neurotransmitter levels. When you start feeling less stressed, inflammation goes down, and when inflammation goes down, your sinuses may start clearing out more easily.

If you're struggling with chronic sinus congestion, then it's time to see a chiropractor. With a few adjustments, they can reduce your stress levels, improve your posture, and relieve pressure on your brain stem, leading to a reduction in congestion.
