Three Questions To Ask Before You Get A Breast Augmentation

As you are looking at having breast augmentation surgery, there are many questions that you may have. As you make the decision to get an augmentation, you will want to make sure that you consider how you will look both naked and with clothes. A good implant will look natural both with and without clothes, allowing you to look good without looking fake. Here are three questions you should consider before choosing a surgeon.

What kind of implants do you want?

One of the most important decisions you can make is the type of implants that you want. There are three major varieties: silicone, saline, and gummy. Silicone implants were a popular option for many years, until there were concerns about the integrity of silicone implants. Fortunately, modern silicone implants are safe and effective. Each type of implant has a different feel, with saline implants feeling the loosest, silicone implants feeling firmer, and gummy implants being the firmest.

Another concern with implants is scarring. Fortunately, both silicone and saline implants are more natural feeling and are able to be inserted via a small (about an inch or smaller) incision in the armpit that is only visible if someone is looking for it. Gummy implants are too firm and solid to fit in such a small hole, so the surgeon will need to cut a larger hole in order for it to set in the proper position.

What size of implants do you want?

While the initial inclination of many people is to get the largest implants that they can since they're getting surgery anyway, work with your cosmetic surgeons to choose a type and volume that will help complement your body instead of overwhelming it. If you have a small rib cage, consider getting high-profile implants instead of standard implants. This will help prevent you from having breasts that look unnatural because they are extremely wide on your ribs.

Will the doctor give you a solid idea for the final results?

Because getting an augmentation is such a personal decision and because it will change your body for years to come, get multiple opinions. If one of the doctors that you work with has 3-D imaging software, make sure that you utilize this tool to get an idea of what you will look like once the implants are in and your body has healed.

After you get your implants, wait for at least a month before you decide if you like them or not. While the incision on the outside of your body was small, the amount of healing that needs to happen underneath the surface of your skin is considerable. This will lead to uneven swelling and pooling that can take time to dissipate. Until this happens, they won't feel or look like they are supposed to.

Finally, enjoy your new breasts!
